Each year I strive to give back to the community in some way with my art talent. Benefiting the Sandy Springs Society, I was invited to participate in the “Town Turtle” Event. Sandy Springs Society is a philanthropic organization that raises money for environmental causes. This fiberglass turtle raised $6,500 at the auction. I spent 30 hours painting a highly detailed pair of Canada Geese and Goslings on the back and a pair of Wood Ducks on the front.

The organization raised $500,000 that night off the Turtle project, 75 invited artists participated. My turtle was purchased by the Winterthur HOA and is still in their park area for all to enjoy. I have been privileged to work with many outstanding projects, from Florida to Alaska and in-between! Originality was the key that made me “the chosen artist” among many who were competing for the same honor! Following are 4 mural projects and my thoughts as I created them.

Alaska

Angus Gavin Commemorative Mural, oil on linen, limited edition prints.

Atlanta Richfield Oil, ARCO, was seeking artists across the US to honor the famous naturalist / environmentalist, Angus Gavin. He was the pioneer doing the research for the Alaska pipeline for ARCO and BP, and pulling together the plans for the pipeline and the need to preserve the wildlife from Anchorage north to Prudhoe Bay on the Bering Sea… a hero who came over from Scotland, a member of the Hudson Bay Company and created the first Eskimo Dictionary, and founded Ducks Unlimited.

I was more than thrilled that I won that contest to commemorate this amazing person. After painstaking research of his life and 3 trips to Alaska, the painting was purchased by ARCO and tours worldwide in their permanent collection and I continue to sell prints of that mural. It is a central portrait of Angus, 8 animals of primary concern to the environmentalists regarding effect of the pipeline on them, and four main territories through which the pipeline travels…an incredible experience overall!

David in the Garden

The 16′ replica of the David in the Ringling Museum was the local flavor and focal point of my inspiration for this decorative mural in a gorgeous mansion in Bradenton, FL, for these distinguished clients. The client desired an English Garden and the famous Four Seasons statues but there needed to be a reflection pool… I got it!

This mural is 11′ x 22′ and was produced in my studio and installed on the wall in this lovely home. I continued to do other paintings for this client for other areas of the home. I was on site for over a week and treated like a queen!

WHITEHALL…the Bobby Jones Estate, Atlanta, 4′ x 8′ Oil on Linen

The Bobby Jones home on Tuxedo Drive in Atlanta was chosen as a decorator showhouse. I was chosen to create a 4’x8′ artpiece for the Library. This is the 13th hole of the Augusta National Golf Course. Installed 2′ deep within the wall, the bronze doors open to the balcony and the view of this famous hole appears to be part of the

grounds of this fabulous estate. This centerpiece dominated a room filled with personal belongings of Bobby Jones, his clubs, his smoking jacket. The piece was privately purchased and installed in another grand home nearby and the entire setting was duplicated.

CHEF LEONARDO, 4′ x 8′ Oil on Masonite

Being a huge fan of Leonardo, when asked by the very upscale “Kitchensmith” of Buckhead, to create a “show-stopper” mural for their showroom… I remembered Leonardo loved to cook! Also recalling that he loved to go to Lake Cuomo and obviously painted the Mona Lisa.

And he continuously had animals all around him. Well, you see the result… a little humor… he just can’t seem to finish that painting… too distracted with all the food!
