Southern Heritage

A wonderful thing about painting favorite places you have been is that each time you look at that piece of art…you are there again! This portfolio represents images that were so impressed in my mind that I had to paint them. A favorite pursuit is to paint “Plein Air”, French for “Open Air”. This process is very exciting due to the time restraints…

The light changes outdoors so quickly, that 2 hours in one spot is a maximum. So the effect is more impressionistic and fleeting. In competitions, the piece cannot be touched up, or finishing details added later. Of course, in reality, most artists do combine studio finishing on their plein air paintings.
